“Umbral is a first-person game that utilizes horror, exploration, and puzzle-solving and tells much of its game story directly to the player. The protagonist is a young man named Mateus. Who has a lot of problems and does not know how to cope with many of lifes adversities. Realizing that he has to end it all, to actually do so he finds out it is not possible. He wakes up in a world called Umbral. Where he has to live in a world that is even more terrifying. Than the one he was trying to escape.

The plot is fundamentally based on the premise of Kardecist Spiritism and Umbanda, reflecting on what becomes of Mateus’s spirit after his death. In a creepy and dangerous world, Mateus has to go through things which he has never even thought of. He equally discovers within a short span of time that running away from life is not the ideal way to have solace. What I liked in the game is that as you progress through the zones of the Umbral, you meet the eerie and terrifying situations that make a fundamentalist of Mateus to doubt.
