ABOUT

Welcome to ICARUS! It’s my love letter to the classic shoot-em-ups of the 16-bit and 32-bit eras. This side-scrolling (and potentially 45-degree and vertical scrolling in the future) shoot-em-up pays homage to those timeless games. It’s still early in development, but I’ve got a big chunk of a test level ready for you to try!

The game features an awesome chip-inspired music track, “My Pixels Are Weapons,” kindly provided by the talented “!Cube” on Soundcloud. Check out to his stuff if you dig the track!

The controls are flexible, supporting joypads or cursor keys. You can redefine the keys to suit your style:

“Z” = Fire Shot/Missile

“X” = Launch Bomb

“A” = Charge Beam (or FIRE if set to auto-charge!)

“C” or Left Shoulder Button = Speed DOWN

“V” or Right Shoulder Button = Speed UP

“ESC” = Restart level/exit menu

ICARUS features huge, vertically panning side-scrolling levels with superb chip/demo-inspired music from !Cube. There are ton of targets and alien types, collectibles, and drones to aid you in battle. Face off against big bosses throughout and at the end of levels, each with unique attacks and difficulties. Discover secret collectibles, areas, and routes through each level. You may also be interested in the game Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord.

Choose from five difficulty levels and plenty of gameplay options, including an old-school fuel depletion mode. You can change your ship’s speed on the fly to navigate tight sections or escape danger. Enjoy multiple speed smooth scrolling, dynamic zooming based on speed, and classic parallax scrolling. There’s even a limited, refillable reverse scroll charge for when you miss a goodie and need to backtrack.

Gameplay recording is a work in progress but almost works flawlessly in the preview demo. I still need to tweak some random elements to ensure the playback is smooth, but it’s shaping up nicely!

How To Download And Install The Game

After waiting for a few seconds click the “Download Now” to begin downloading.
When the file gets download completely. Extract the “.zip” to the “ICARUS” folder.
Run the “.exe” file of the ICARUS folder.
Make sure to run the game as an administrator. If you come across any missing DLL errors. Look for a Redist or _CommonRedist folder and install all the included programs, enjoy gaming.
